Hi, I'm Doctor John Barras, cosmetic dentist here in Houston, Texas, I also treat TMJ. We had an online question from Amber, asking about her TMJ issues. She wanted to know what happens if TMJ goes untreated? And so, one of things, analogy that I like to use is a car, for instance. You kinda hear it knocking and you don't do anything about it. But you know if you did something right then, it would probably be cheaper to be fixed. The same thing with your TMJ. 'Cause there's multi-factors that go in with the TMJ. There's the teeth, the muscles, and the jaw joint. All of that are kinda really interconnected. So if we can treat TMJ early on, then a lot of times, we can get the TMJ under wraps, and treat it permanently without surgery. And sometimes it's just simply moving the teeth into a proper bite position with braces that it can be taken care of, it can take care of the TMJ problems. Left untreated for months, years, then more problems can happen. Sometimes the TMJ is caused by a bad bite position, and the teeth can be broken down and worn down over time. And then you're looking into more expensive ways to treat the teeth to get the TMJ under wraps. So, it's always better if there's a problem to fix things early, you could say that about just about anything in life. So if you have TMJ problems, I would seek treatment early on.
