Top News | Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Kuldeep Singh Pathania dismissed 15 BJP MLAs on February 28 for reportedly yelling slogans and acting inappropriately in the Speaker's chamber, among them is Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur. A day earlier, the BJP's Harsh Mahajan defeated Congress veteran Abhishek Manu Singhvi in the state's sole Rajya Sabha seat as a result of cross-voting. Meanwhile, the MLAs were suspended. For the Congress party, which is now in power in the state, this was a significant blow. In the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, the BJP has just 25 MLAs while the Congress has 40.
