VERSE:
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. (JOHN 10:11 KJV)
EXPLANATION:
Blessed be the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus is the good shepherd who gave his life for you. Commit yourself to Him. He will guide you, give you what you need, and transform your life. As Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." (John 10:11) We are to meditate on this verse.
A shepherd loves his sheep. He knows every animal. When a sheep goes astray, he finds the lost sheep and takes it home, hugging it to his chest. God is comparing us to sheep. He views us as innocent people who do not know the danger that lies with the predator, Satan. A good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. Jesus Christ promised to be a good shepherd because he laid down his life for us.
He leads the sheep to the water. A sheep is an animal that does not sleep properly. So the shepherd brings them to the well of water to rest. King David also knew this because he was a shepherd. That is why he describes how the Lord gives rest to our restless souls like sheep.
We've all heard the story about sheep. Once a wolf was roaming around a herd of sheep for a long time. The shepherd kept watch to prevent the wolf from taking away his lamb. But the wolf did not try to harm the sheep. Instead, the shepherd thought that the wolf was helping him to take care of the sheep. At last the wolf and the shepherd got used to it. He forgot that a wolf is an evil animal.
One day the shepherd trusted the wolf to the extent that he left his flock in the wolf's care. But when he returned, he saw how many sheep it had killed and taken away from the flock, and he realized how foolish he had been to trust in the wolf. The shepherd has learned that the wolf is always the wolf.
Beloved ones, Jesus compares himself to a good shepherd. "But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep." (John 10:12) But he is not our God. He suffered on the cross to protect us from the works of the devil and the curses and tribulations of the world. "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil." (1 John 3:8)
Yes, beloved, he must be your shepherd. A prophet said, "I saw all Israel scattered upon the hills, as sheep that have not a shepherd." (1 Kings 22:17) Dear friends, what about your life? Do you have Jesus as your Shepherd? Are you putting your life in God's hands? Do you believe that God is watching over you?
In Psalm 23, we read that David shared his experience. "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." (Psalm 23:1) Beloved, do you have Jesus as your Shepherd? David goes on to say, I shall fall.
In six verses, Jesus describes all the blessings he would receive if he were his Shepherd. I encourage you to read this psalm over and over again and to have experiences in your life. Ask the Lord Jesus to come into your life. Look at the cross. Saul was a bad man. But God turned him into a true man of God, a wonderful man in His own hands. How this happened? And he accepted Jesus as his Savior.
So now, dear friends, give your hearts to the Lord. And Jesus said to him, "Lord, you must be my shepherd. Come into my life. Purify me and make me a new man."
God will take care of all your needs. Read Psalm 23 in its entirety. Feel all the blessings that come to you when you accept Jesus as your Savior. Confess all your sins to Him. He will be your saviour. He will wash you in the blood of His cross for your sins. He will be your shepherd. You won't be missing anything.
So, you don't have to worry about anything. "for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye." (Zechariah 2:8) "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper." (Isaiah 54:17) No harm will come to you. So keep these promises and be at peace.
