Courthouse Square is a backlot at the Universal Studios Lot in Universal City, California. The set comprises several facades that form an archetypal American town square with a courthouse as its centerpiece. The set was built for the 1948 film An Act of Murder and featured as downtown Hill Valley in the Back to the Future trilogy and Kingston Falls in the Gremlins series.

Before the Back to the Future series, the area was known as Mockingbird Square, owing to its role in To Kill a Mockingbird. It has been severely damaged by fire several times, including in 1957, 1990, and 2008. It was reconstructed after each incident.

Universal Studios Lot is a television and film studio complex located at 100 Universal City Plaza in Universal City, California, adjacent to the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park. It is the site of Universal Pictures and is owned by Comcast through its wholly-owned subsidiary NBCUniversal. The lot officially opened the gates of Universal City on March 15, 1915. The lot began offering its modern studio tour in 1964, eventually becoming the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park. Today, the Universal Studios Lot is 400 acres and includes more than 30 sound stages, the Brokaw News Center, and 165 other separate structures.
