In a major pre-festive season announcement, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has unveiled sweeping GST reforms following the 53rd GST Council meeting. The council has decided to simplify the tax structure and slash rates on dozens of essential items to provide relief to common households and patients.

Key Announcements:
✔️ ZERO GST on everyday staples like Milk, Paneer (chena), and all Indian Breads (Roti, Chapati, Paratha, Parotta).
✔️ ZERO GST on 36 life-saving drugs used for cancer, rare diseases, and severe chronic diseases.
✔️ Tax rates reduced on items like Soap, Shampoo, Television, and Air Conditioners.
✔️ Major structural change: GST slabs simplified from four (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%) to primarily two main slabs (5% and 18%).
✔️ A special 40% rate for sin goods like high-end cars, tobacco, and cigarettes.

These changes, effective from September 22nd (the first day of Navratri), aim to reduce the cost of living, boost consumer spending during the festive season, and strengthen the Indian economy.
