Presented by Dr. Christoph Gammer and Simon Fellner of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OAW).

The webinar focused on strain measurements in complex metallic glass materials and alloys undergoing in-situ deformation. At each point of deformation, a new 4D STEM dataset is collected to measure local strain fields and deformation, effectively filming the process within the material with nanometre resolution.

We showcased the advantages of this approach in comparison with more established methods, especially with highly deformed and disordered materials. Finally, we reported on new experimental developments in this field, including the enabling combination of energy-filtering and precession electron diffraction.
