Recording of the Keynote by Prof. Allan Dafoe (Director, Governance of AI Program, Future of Humanity Institute, University of Oxford) at “The Digital Society Conference 2018: Empowering Ecosystems”, which took place on December 11, 2018 at ESMT Berlin.

The Digital Society Conference 2018 - Empowering Ecosystems covered new developments in security and privacy, digital politics, and industrial strategies. A particular focus of the conference was the reality of the rise of AI - its societal implications, how to understand and harness the battle for AI dominance. We further took a closer look at platforms - their role, their power, how to build them and how and when to control them.

DSI Berlin: The Digital Society Institute delivers the ingredients for digital wisdom. We are independent from IT-industry funding, inter- and transdisciplinary, critical and pragmatic, with a strong focus on the pressing problems of information security and privacy. We create theoretical knowledge and provide an opinion to address and confront the persistent gaps and challenges of digitization, and we develop responsible strategies and effective technologies to build a democratic, a free and a prosperous digital future for all of us.
