Philips 5400 Bean to Cup Coffee Machine Unbox, Set Up, First Brew: John Lewis Price-match!

We decided to replace our old coffee machine (well, Mrs Steveyneo is the prime coffee drinker and wanted to try bean-to-cup) so eventually settled on the Philips 5400 series, EP5446/70 after considering the 4300 (which was out of stock at CostCo, a less spec device and a lot cheaper). John Lewis had the 5400 online at £499 while Argos was at £450, so going to Argos was a no-brainer, but they didn't have any stock in local stores, nor for home delivery.

We ventured to a local John Lewis to see if it was on display to check and test ourselves. A very helpful chap showed us around the unit, checked stock and found one to be available! He also advised John Lewis would price-match if it could be bought elsewhere for less, so we showed him the Argos website, went to the till and lo and behold, we got it for £450 and took the machine home on the same day. Result!

We still have a lot to learn in terms of finding the right balance between the water and milk levels but have been enjoying trying the different combinations since.
