In our fast-paced society, we always focus on the present. As a result, we spend very little time looking towards the beautiful immensity of the sky. Our little Earth revolves around one of the many billions of stars that make up the universe. A universe that is still largely unexplored. Gianfranco Bertone, a theoretical physicist, guides us on a journey to discover the mysterious matter that makes up the universe. According to Gianfranco, human beings are special because they are eager to understand the unknown. He coordinates the center of excellence in gravitational and astroparticle physics at the University of Amsterdam. After a degree at the Sapienza University of Rome and a PhD from the University of Oxford and the Paris Institute of Astrophysics, Gianfranco carried out research programmes and became teacher at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Chicago, at the University of Padua, at the Institute of Astrophysics in Paris and at the University of Zurich. He collaborates with “La Repubblica” and is the author of the "Big Bang" column for the RLab science insert. His book "Behind the scenes of the Universe: the mystery of dark matter" won the "Ciel et Espace" award in France as the best text for the diffusion of astronomy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
