The picturesque Karwar Beach transformed into a vibrant hub of celebration on Wednesday night as thousands of residents and tourists gathered to welcome the New Year 2026 in an atmosphere filled with joy, music and coastal charm. The sound of waves blending with cheers, music and fireworks created a memorable midnight spectacle along the Arabian Sea.
As the clock ticked closer to midnight, Karwar Beach came alive with cultural programmes, live music performances and events organised by local clubs, hotels and tourism stakeholders. Youth, families and visitors from neighbouring districts thronged the shoreline, many capturing the moments on their phones as colourful lights illuminated the beach stretch.
At the stroke of midnight, the sky over Karwar lit up with a dazzling display of fireworks, drawing loud applause and chants of “Happy New Year 2026” from the crowd. The celebratory mood was heightened by the cool sea breeze and the rhythmic sound of waves, offering a unique coastal welcome to the New Year.
Local food stalls and beachside vendors did brisk business through the night, serving seafood delicacies, snacks and refreshments to revellers. Hotels and homestays in and around Karwar reported near-full occupancy, reflecting the growing popularity of the town as a New Year destination.
Security arrangements were tight, with police personnel deployed across the beach and nearby areas to ensure public safety and smooth traffic movement. Authorities also kept a close watch to prevent untoward incidents, while volunteers assisted in crowd management. The police appealed to the public to celebrate responsibly and avoid drunken driving, an appeal that was largely heeded.
Many attendees described the celebration as peaceful and well-organised. “Welcoming the New Year by the sea has a special feeling. The arrangements were good and the atmosphere was positive,” said a visitor from Hubballi.
