Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda has posted a video on Instagram reporting she has been banned from her TikTok account. Owda came to fame in recent years by sharing video reports about daily challenges during the genocide in Gaza through social media posts.

Owda, who held 1,4 million followers on TikTok, claims she “isn’t surprised” about the ban, after recent statements have emerged from TikTok US CEO Adam Presser, saying he has “made a change [to TikTok] to designate the use of the term Zionist as a proxy for protected attribute as hate speech.”

Owda also highlighted Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu’s remarks from September of last year, where he emphasised that “the most important purchase” at the time was TikTok.

Just last week, a deal was reached which transfers over 80 percent of the app’s ownership to American investors, from TikTok’s parent company ByteDance.
