This has been an extraordinarily hard weekend for us in Huntingdon.

It is unthinkable to see Huntingdon in the news headlines linked to such a senseless and horrific attack. An attack that has placed lives in jeopardy and changed lives forever.

In response to today’s ministerial statement from the Home Secretary on the attack I paid tribute to our emergency services - Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Services, Air Ambulance and the East of England Ambulance Trust.

I also paid tribute to the LNER staff; the on-board crew member who placed himself in harms way and was critically injured in the process and the quick-thinking of the train driver, Andrew Johnson, and signalling staff who were able to redirect the train to stop at Huntingdon station.

Those involved and responding to this attack prevented it from being a far worse tragedy, and I am proud of their courage, leadership and professionalism.
