WYE VALLEY WALK FEATURING LLANDOGO, CLEDDON FALLS, HAROLD’S STONES AND TRELLECH
"Llandogo, Cleddon Falls and Trellech”
Filmed 24th March 2018
Post-production completed 18th May 2018
I’m thoroughly enjoying the 25th anniversary celebrations as it’s been great to return to the Wye Valley where the earliest Solitary Rambler films were made and make new films in this wonderful area.
For this film I visit the picturesque village of Llandogo beside the River Wye, just a couple of miles or so upstream from Brockweir. Llandogo wasn’t actually in an earlier film apart from being seen from a distance in one scene in the 1994 film “Escape through the Valley to Tranquillity”. However, Llandogo is a place in the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that I wanted to feature as part of this year’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
This was actually quite a tough one to film as part of the walk involved a long, steep climb, which after recent wet weather was thick with mud and very slippery. However, it was a lovely walk to shoot as the walk from Llandogo provides some fantastic views over the Wye Valley.
The walk in this film also features a visit to Cleddon Falls which, as a result of much rainfall not long before I was filming here, look extremely impressive.
There are other locations in this film, however, which did feature in two of my earliest films shot back in 1994, “The Lost Villages” and “Escape through the Valley to Tranquillity”. The main location revisited is the village of Trellech, originally seen in the second Solitary Rambler film, “The Lost Villages”. As with the immediate two preceding films I have made in the Wye Valley, it has been a joy to revisit a previously featured location and shoot it in HD, especially as “The Lost Villages” is of the poorest picture quality of all the Solitary Rambler films.
Filmed in the Wye Valley in the county of Monmouthshire. Locations include Llandogo, Cleddon Falls, Whitestone in Bargain Wood, Virtuous Well, Harold’s Stones, Tump Terret and Trellech. This continues the series of films in 2018 celebrating 25 years of “The Solitary Rambler”.

"The Solitary Rambler" is my series of amateur films of my journeys in the countryside accompanied by my own musical scores, which I compose and perform on my Yamaha keyboard.
Please note that, as with all the films I make, this is not actually intended to be an extensive guide to the area. This is a mini-movie of my personal journey along the walk, in which I often share some of my own personal stories.
