"Godzilla vs. Monster Zero" UPA title/credits (circa 1980)

The Americanization of this film was originally produced by UPA Productions of America in 1966 but not released until 1970 after Henry G. Saperstein struck a theatrical distribution deal with Maron Films. After flirting with the titles "Invasion of the Astro-Monsters" and "Invasion of the Astros" (which did see some very limited release), the film was title "Monster Zero." Around 1980, UPA produced new video masters of its five Godzilla films using original 35mm elements. The title was changed, perhaps to reinforce that this was a Godzilla movie. I suspect the credits were redone on video because theatrical release's credits weren't optimal for a 1.33 television presentation.

UPA successfully syndicated its five Godzilla films to a number of major cable channels through the '80s and '90s and this version was seen on every official video release of this film from 1983-1998. I believe the last official appearance of this version on television was in 2006 on AMC.
