Hi everyone!

Here is my cover of Euphoria by Jungkook from BTS. I was inspired to make this cover after listening to Tony Ann's cover of this song on tiktok – specifically how he interpreted the opening few lines. I've always admired how many talented cover pianists like Animenz, Theisther, and also Tony Ann, are able to cover songs with more than 2 voices and incorporate all of them into piano, like in the beginning of Euphoria. There's the base chords left hand, but also the ostinato motif which is the first thing you hear in the right hand. Usually, I'd just play the ostinato until the melody comes in and have the right hand switch to playing that. However, in Tony Ann's cover, he keeps doing the pattern, in addition to adding in left hand chords and fitting in the melody in the middle! I wanted to try and do this same thing in my cover and step outside of my comfort zone, and while it took a lot of practice and definitely isn't perfect in this cover, I'm really proud that I was able to incorporate this new skill into my arrangement. Playing this way is challenging for two main reasons: coordination between two hands that are now playing three different voices, and keeping the melody audible. The latter was the most challenging part for me; instead of the basic "right hand loud, left hand soft", it's a matter of certain fingers playing louder than others... challenging!

I took further inspiration from Tony Ann's cover by doing a descending scale right before the beat drop instead of directly interpreting how it sounds in the song, and also how he chose to play the beat drop right after. After watching a bunch of different Euphoria covers for inspiration, since the beat drop is so complex (many different voices, sounds, ornaments, etc.), different pianists interpreted it in many, drastically different ways. For me, it was a matter of choosing how much of the song I could fit into my piano cover with only two hands. Like Tony Ann, I decided to leave out the high pitched vocal ornaments, but include some of Jungkook's sung words.

I also excluded the last verse in my cover this time since as you all know, I like to make shorter covers (lol), and I wanted to avoid it sounding too repetitive. I ended up combining the second and third chorus (I think?) into one, skipping over the last verse and going straight to the end.

Overall, Euphoria is such a beautiful tune and I'm really happy about how this cover turned out! Some short bits in the final version of my cover are improvised (yay!) which also shows how much I ~vibed~ with this piece.
