Backpacking in the Russian Wilderness of California

An overnight backpacking trip with my son in the Russian Wilderness of northern California in July 2020. The lakes in order of appearance are Hogan Lake, Neil Lake, Big Blue Lake and Taylor Lake.

We had been wanting to complete the Big Blue Lake Loop (https://www.hikingproject.com/trail/7...) after doing the eastern half of it in 2019. On that trip, we figured out an off-trail ridge route between Upper Albert Lake and Taylor Lake. On this trip, we made the off-trail ascent from Hogan Lake up to Neil and Big Blue Lakes the first day (with some forest fire smoke). The second day, under clear skies, we ascended to the ridge above Big Blue Lake and joined up with our route back to Taylor Lake from the previous summer.
