Nickerie is a district of Suriname, on the north-west coast. With the capital city Nieuw-Nickerie. The district borders the Atlantic Ocean to the north, the district Coronie to the east, the district Sipaliwini to the south and the region of East Berbice-Corentyne in Guyana to the west.

Nickerie has a population of almost 40.000 people and an area of 5,353 km2. During the 20th century, Nickerie became the centre of the rice in Suriname
