Donald Hoffman, Ph.D., is a professor of cognitive sciences at the University of California, Irvine, with a joint appointment in the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science. He received the Troland Award of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, a Distinguished Scientific Award of the American Psychological Association, and the Rustum Roy Award of the Chopra Foundation. His writing has appeared in Scientific American and Edge, and his work has been featured in the Atlantic, Wired, and Quanta. His previous book Visual Intelligence: How We Create What We See, also published by WW Norton, explores the creative genius of the mind's eye. His 2015 TED talk "Do We See Reality as it Is?" lays out the premise of his new book The Case Against Reality in 19 minutes and has been viewed over 2.6 million times.
