What Is Castor Oil?

Castor oil is a vegetable oil that is made from pressing castor beans. Originally used as fuel for lamps, the oil produced is thick and translucent, with a slight yellow tint. More recently, however, castor oil has gained acclaim as a beauty product, with claims that it can increase hair growth and provide relief to dry, itchy skin.

What causes poor beard growth?

There are lots of factors that can contribute to a patchy or slow-growing beard, with genetics being the main contributing factor. How to Best Use Castor Oil

1. The first step in applying castor oil to your beard is to prepare your oil. While it's fine to use castor oil on its own, adding other essential oils into the mix can give some added benefits. For instance, adding a few drops of tea tree oil can increase the antibacterial properties which are particularly useful if you struggle with acne. As well as this, a couple of drops of bergamot oil can not only add a great smell but also has anti-itching properties.

2. After you have chosen the right combination of oils, mix them together with your castor oil and heat briefly in the microwave. The added heat will not only give you a spa-like experience but also by heating the oils they become more manageable and soak into the skin more easily.

3. Once your oils are prepared, the next step is to wash your face and beard thoroughly with warm water, preferably using a beard shampoo. The steam created from the water will open the pores in your face, allowing the oils to penetrate deeper into the skin and increasing their benefits.

4. After this, pat your face and beard dry with a clean towel.

5. Once dry, take a small amount of oil and rub it between your hands. Apply to the face, making sure to massage it into the roots of the hair, as well as the tips, until the whole area is covered.

6. You can choose to either leave it on overnight or leave for half an hour before washing it off with shampoo and water.
