EY is one of the Big 4 consulting firms along with KPMG, Deloitte & PwC and they have traditionally provided a full suite of professional services from audit & accounting to consulting to tax and other financial services.

This news surrounding Ernst & Young and the possibility of it spinning out its audit business from its consulting business has shocked the Big 4 and the broader consulting and audit industries.

A global audit and consulting shake-up has not been seen at this scale since the Big 5 became the Big 4 with Arthur Andersen's collapse after the Enron scandal and EY's potential decision has attracted a lot of Big 4 employees and Big 4 consultants eyes.
