Driving the Scariest Road in Norway | Stuck in Snow | OiN JOTUNHEIM Series EP1 | Land Rover Drive

Описание к видео Driving the Scariest Road in Norway | Stuck in Snow | OiN JOTUNHEIM Series EP1 | Land Rover Drive

In Overlanding in Norway Jotunheim Series EP1 we are heading for Øvre Årdal and the Tinde road which will take us up into the mountains of Jotunheim.

But just getting to the start of Jotunheim would turn out to be more of a struggle than we had planned. All because of our weakness for Norways backcountry side roads.

Let's just say that this old and forgotten road from over a hundred years ago is a bit of a challenge for any drivers nerves.

Stuck and Scary roads are the theme in this episode and I think you will like the camping area at then end too.

Info about
Road is located in Øvre Årdal, and is the old road to Tyin and Valdre. They starting building it in 1910, the steep part, than continued to Tyin in 1934, even expanded during WW2. This road is often referred to as tusenmeteren or 1000 meteren, because the top is 1020 meters above sea level and 1000 meters above Øvre Årdal. If you go off here, you don't stop until you hit the bottom.

From Visit Årdal
"
The Øvre Årdal - Valdres road over Heirsnosi was opened in 1934. The demand for a road from Øvre Årdal to Valdres was first put forward in 1887 as a result of power development, and construction work started in 1910 by Tyinfaldene A/S. In the center of Øvre Årdal, one can today see the monument to the sluskane, as the road builders were called, who dug in, bricked up and built the road by hand. It took many men and more than 30 years to finish the road, but in 1934 it was ready.

And with a height difference of over 1000 metres, and 42 sharp hairpin bends (also called Røyrgatevegen) from Øvre Årdal up to 1000 m above sea level, the road immediately became a tourist attraction!
