Описание к видео Norfolk Island 2025

Norfolk Island – March 2025

Our Norfolk Island adventure began in March 2025. We flew from Hobart to Sydney at the crack of dawn, then transferred to the international terminal for our flight to Norfolk Island. We arrived early afternoon—minus my luggage, which didn’t turn up for another five days! Thankfully, our unit had a washer and dryer, so my “Meaning of Life the Universe and Everything” T-shirt became a regular evening feature.

That first afternoon we explored Burnt Pine Township, sampling a few local watering holes and enjoying a cocktail back at our accommodation at Cumberland Resort, where we’d scored a fantastic apartment for the week. Dinner followed at the Salty Beer Garden, a place we returned to several times during our stay as was Norfolk Island Brewing.

Our Scenic Tours itinerary began with an orientation drive, including a stop at Queen Elizabeth Lookout overlooking Kingston and a visit to Lone Pine. Over the next few days, we toured the beautiful Chapel of St. Barnabas, wandered through Kingston and Emily Bay, and delved into Norfolk Island’s fascinating convict past. We learned how descendants of the Bounty mutineers arrived from Pitcairn Island in 1856.

Our driver, John Christian, a direct descendant of Fletcher Christian (as are more than a quarter of the island’s population), seemed to have endless energy—and several jobs! Besides driving our bus, he cooked at the Island Fish Fry, served breakfast at Forest Glen, guided tours in Kingston, and even played a ghost at the Ghost Dinner.

A visit to the island’s cemetery was a highlight, with its convict-era headstones and the grave of author Colleen McCullough. We also enjoyed local craft shops, an ice-cream and tour at the lavender farm, the Cyclorama, Government House, and another stop at Queen Elizabeth Lookout.

Dining on the island was a treat. We enjoyed meals at Hilli Restaurant, Cumberland Resort, and the Salty Beer Garden, along with the must-do Progressive Dinner, Ghost Dinner and Tour, and the Island Fish Fry.

Other highlights included a surprisingly enjoyable Glass Bottom Boat cruise, the Palm Glen forest walk (complete with a cooked breakfast), and watching the fuel boat unload at Ball Bay—a surprisingly interesting sight.

We were lucky to be there for the annual re-enactment of the First Fleet’s arrival on Norfolk Island on 6 March 1788—just five weeks after Port Jackson became Australia’s first settlement.

Another memorable experience was visiting the Pitcairn Settlers Village, where we were treated to a community-provided high tea and a ride in an old tour bus. The tour of Colleen McCullough’s home was far more fascinating than expected, though sadly no photos were allowed.

We rounded off our stay with the 4x4 Safari. While it wasn’t exactly extreme off-roading, it took us to new lookouts and scenic views we hadn’t seen before—well worth doing.

Thanks to Cyclone Alfred we spent an extra day on Norfolk Island visiting our favourite watering holes. The delayed flight and travel chaos meant we missed our connector to Mackay so had to spend a night in Brisbane and got to our room at midnight.
