De Havilland DHC-4 Caribou Compilation, pt 1

Описание к видео De Havilland DHC-4 Caribou Compilation, pt 1

A 3-part mega compilation of non-stop DeHavilland Caribou action! Truth be told, the ‘Bou is one of my favorite planes. For starters, it sounds absolutely amazing with those huge augmented exhausts coupled with P&W R2000s. With its ridiculously-sized flying surfaces and ability to take off and land in places no other plane its size will, you’ve got one ugly plane that’s nearly perfect in my eyes.

Here’s some curious facts about the ‘Bou:

The Caribou has a unique and unusual feature in its "kneeling" landing gear, which allows it to lower its fuselage for easier loading and unloading of cargo.
During the Vietnam War, the Caribou was sometimes used to drop toilet paper rolls to troops in the field, as the rolls were more durable than the typical leafy alternatives.
The Caribou has been used for a variety of unusual missions over the years, including transporting reindeer in Alaska and even as a platform for launching rockets during a scientific experiment.
In 1967, a Caribou set a world record for altitude in its class, reaching an altitude of over 34,000 feet.
In 2005, a retired Royal Australian Air Force Caribou was converted into a restaurant in Malaysia, complete with tables and seating inside the fuselage.
