In today's episode, we are going to focus on a crucial aspect of the recruitment process for position players: what do college coaches look for in a high school hitter?

Being a former D1 recruiter and talking to college coaches on a weekly basis, I am excited to share my insights. Below is just an overview.

For a more detailed look, I invite you to watch my latest YouTube video or listen to my new podcast episode, where we delve deeper into the heart of what college coaches look for in a high school hitter.

Five areas college coaches look at in a high school hitter:
Hittability: Coaches love a player who can consistently get the ball hard. They are looking for players who have the hand-eye coordination to make regular contact with the ball and the ability to adjust to different pitch types and locations.

On-Base Ability: The importance of this cannot be overstated. The more often a player can get on base, the more opportunities their team has to score. Coaches appreciate players who demonstrate patience at the plate, the ability to work counts in their favor, and the knack for finding ways to get on base.

Plate Discipline: This is all about a player's judgment at the plate. Coaches look for players who know the strike zone well and are disciplined enough to avoid chasing poor pitches.

Swing: The swing itself is vital. Coaches look for players with quick hands and compact swings that can produce consistent line drives.

Game Power: A player's power can be a huge asset in the recruitment process, especially if they can combine it with the other elements listed above.

Developing these skills can make a world of difference in your journey to becoming a college baseball player.
