Beach-Head by Bruce Carver, published by Access Software (US), U.S. Gold (EU) and released in 1983.

"A peaceful island is being held by a ruthless dictator and his military troops. As Chief Commander of land and sea forces in the Pacific, you must obtain a quick naval victory and then invade the island with land forces. If your troops succeed in penetrating the island defence system, the most difficult challenge still remains; capturing the enemy fortress of KUHN-LIN."

The second game from Access software and possibly their best seller as one of the most recognised games on the Commodore64 in both Europe and the states. It was likely one of the first if not the first game I ever played on the C64 on the very rare occasions my dad would let me play on it. It's a game I load up quite often as it's still enjoyable to play today and was somewhat a benchmark game for the C64 back in 1983.

In the game, you need to play through multiple game sequences each with their own objectives in order to reach and take the island of Kuhn-Lin. Firstly, you can move your fleet to attack the enemy ships head on or traverse the secret passage filled with mines and torpedoes. Should you make it through you get to engage the enemy fleet firstly by shooting down enemy planes and then taking out the enemy fleet. The idea behind the secret passage is to catch the enemy off guard so their forces are unprepared and dont hit as hard. The tradeoff being you could lose ships going through it. On highest difficulty it probably doesn't make much difference but it does boost your score!

All the while, you will be taking damage and losing ships so defeating the enemy needs to be done swiftly. If any ships make it through, you can progress to the island and start the tank battle on land. Each ship that makes it will supply two tanks. In this sequence you need to get round the mines and obstacles, destroying any enemy tanks or gun emplacements along the way. If you make it to the end you can start the attack on the enemy fortress but be quick as it has a super cannon ready for you. With each tank required, the course gets more difficult so ideally you destroy the fortress with as few tanks as possible.

Once the fortress is destroyed, the dictator surrenders and you win the day! A great game from start to finish.
