Women and unaccompanied children would be deported under Reform UK’s plan to remove up to 600,000 illegal immigrants within five years of it taking power, according to Nigel Farage.

The Reform leader promised emergency legislation to repeal human rights law, allowing the mass detention and removal of those with no right to remain in the UK.

Claiming that public anger at the asylum system was at breaking point, Farage said Britain had been subjected to an “invasion” of small-boat arrivals.

He announced deterrents designed to reduce the number of arrivals to zero at an estimated cost of £10 billion, promising longer-term savings on hotels and NHS and welfare spending.

Under the banner of “Operation Restoring Justice”, Farage said US-style enforcement raids would lead to five deportation flights a day and the number of annual removals rising tenfold.

Only severe action would be enough to alleviate the “genuine threat to public order” from public anger, he said. The number of small-boat arrivals this year is 28,947 — 50 per cent higher than at the same point last year.

But the plans present complex legal and political challenges and some questions about the practicalities went unanswered.
