Activity: How does Cactus Store Water?
Materials:
1. Three sheets of thin fibers
2. Paper clips
3. Waxed Paper
4. Water
5. Tray
Procedure: Wetted all three thin fibers. placed one of fiber sheet fat on a tray. Rolled up the second sheet and clipped it to keep rolled up, and placed on the same tray. Placed third sheet on a piece of wax paper. Rolled up the paper and the sheet, and clipped to keep it stay rolled up, and placed on the tray.
All three sheets of fibers were left for about a day.

Observations: The flat one dried. The rolled one was moist. But the sheet rolled up with the wax paper was found still wet.

Conclusion: A desert plant like cactus is like the sheet rolled up with wax paper. A cactus has waxy coverings that keep water from evaporating into the dry desert air. That is why it can survive on the little water.
