Описание к видео Hesperia comma - Silver-spotted skipper - Skipper fiðrildi - Skordýr - Ilmbaun

Skipper butterfly - Hesperia comma - Silver-spotted skipper - Lepidoptera. Skipper fiðrildi að drekka hunangssafa frá ilmbaun í blóma - on Sweet Pea flowers - Lathyrus odoratus - Ilmbaun. Small, darting flight; clubs on antennae hooked backwards - A distinctive species of grasslands. A rare species in the UK, confined to just a few localities in the south. Its preference for short turf, particularly with bare patches, produced by rabbits has become scarce. Butterflies have the typical four-stage insect life cycle. Winged adults lay eggs on the food plant on which their larvae, known as caterpillars, will feed. The caterpillars grow, sometimes very rapidly, and when fully developed, pupate in a chrysalis. When metamorphosis is complete, the pupal skin splits, the adult insect climbs out, and after its wings have expanded and dried, it flies off.

Often confused with the large skipper Ochlodes venata, this species is easily distinguished by the numerous white spots on the underside hindwings, and the tips of the upper forewings tend to be darker than those of the large skipper. Also their flight periods rarely overlap; in Britain the large skipper has all but finished when the silver-spotted takes to the wing in August. Females lay single eggs during August and September on the leaf blades of sheep's fescue Festuca ovina, the only foodplant, and occasionally on nearby plants. The females are very fussy where they lay; most eggs in the UK are laid in short turf, up to 4 cm, and often next to patches of bare ground. This species overwinters as an egg and hatches in March. Like other skippers the larvae construct small tent-like structures from leaf blades and silk from which to feed. They enter the pupal stage after 14 to 15 weeks at the base of the foodplant. Pupation takes 10 to 14 days, and as with most butterflies the males emerge first. See more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hesperi...

This warmth-loving skipper is relatively-local, but is fairly easy to identify, since it is the only skipper found in the British Isles that has the distinctive white spots on the underside of the hindwings, which give the butterfly its name. Like other "golden" skippers, the male is distinguished from the female by the sex brand on its forewings, which is a line of specialised scent scales. In Europe this butterfly can't be confused with any other species except the Large Skipper Ochlodes venata, which is more brightly marked above, and lacks the distinctive silver spots on the underside hindwings of comma. See more: http://www.learnaboutbutterflies.com/...

Skipta má fiðrildum í hávængjur (e. butterfly) og lágvængjur (e. moth). Hávængjur, sem einnig hafa verið kallaðar flögrur, reisa vængina lóðrétt upp í loftið en lágvængjur eru þau fiðrildi sem leggja vængina lárétt yfir bolinn. Á Íslandi lifa eingöngu lágvængjur en hávængjur berast hingað með loftstraumum frá Evrópu. Alls eru rúmlega 70 tegundir fiðrilda á Íslandi. Lesa meira: https://www.visindavefur.is/svar.php?...

fiðrildum gjarnan skipt í tvennt, annars vegar þau sem bera vængi í hvíldarstöðu samanlagða upp frá bolnum, hins vegar þau sem leggja vængina flata eða hvelfda yfir bolinn. Heitin dagfiðrildi og náttfiðrildi sjást stundum notuð á þessar tvær megingerðir, en hafa þó lítið með raunverulegan skyldleika að gera né heldur athafnasemi að degi og nóttu, hvorki heiti né gerðir, þó vissulega sé nokkur tilhneiging á þá veru.
