Drop of the Day: 2022 Château Clinet 

Owned by Ronan Laborde, the President of UGC Bordeaux (the collective body that oversees the top 133 fine wine Châteaux in Bordeaux), Château Clinet is one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious estates. It has a long and influential history dating back to 1619. Despite a dip in fortunes between 1940 and 1980, when the estate changed hands four times in four decades, it has sustained its superlative quality for centuries. Upon Laborde’s election into the UGC in February 2019, prices for all vintages during his 20-year reign at Clinet rose by 10%, almost overnight. 

Today, Clinet claims record highs for Pomerol (equivalent to Petrus) and, along with Le Pin and Lafleur, is considered one of the region’s iconic heavyweights. The estate is no stranger to the perfect 100-point score. The 2009 vintage achieved a perfect 100 from no less than 18 separate judges. The 2019 offering was given 100 points by both Robert Parker and James Suckling, and the 2018 vintage was an almost unanimous 99. The 2022 wine promises that the next decade for Clinet will be phenomenal.
