Just because you need oxygen doesn't mean you have to limit your travel plans. Here are some great tips to help you fly with your portable oxygen concentrator from American Medical.

Remember, when searching for a flight, direct flights are recommended because you won't have to board and disembark from the airplane with your oxygen concentrator multiple times. Be sure and contact your airline several weeks before your flight to obtain their policy and make arrangements for special accommodations as needed.

Be aware that the airline may require a letter from your physician, some medical history, and a current oxygen prescription. Before you head to the airport, make sure you have a pulse oximeter with you to keep track of your oxygen levels.

When you reach the airport keep your unit charged on AC power while you wait to board and during any layovers. It's also a good idea to board the plane first so you can store your POC properly without having to move around other passengers. Many of the units we carry simply slide underneath the seat in front of you, but sometimes other accommodations must be made.

And remember, FAA guidelines require that you have enough battery life to power your concentrator for at least 150% of your flight time.
