After a year marked by layoffs, financial strain and questions about its future, Hi-Country Snack Foods, the longstanding Lincoln jerky maker, is working to rebuild its business and repair relationships with workers and customers following a turbulent stretch under new ownership.

Co-owner Wyatt Nielson said Hi-Country’s parent company, Yellowstone Natural Holding who took majority ownership in late 2023, is refocusing its efforts after a series of missteps in 2024 that left the company overextended and operating under heavy debt.

“At that time, the company had a fair bit of debt, and, I would suggest, not a ton of access to working capital, but it seemed like a promising brand," Nielson said in an interview with NBC Montana. "We saw it as a good business and wanted to help it do and achieve the things that it could and should achieve."
