Today we will see Karni Mata Mandir or Rat Temple in Deshnoke, 32km away from Bikaner. I am trying to tell you what I have learned from the many wonders of Karni Mata. The mother goddess Hinglaj or incarnation of Durga, is the patron goddess of the royal family of Bikaner. Karni Mata, was the daughter of Mehaji Charan and Debal Bai. Born in 1387. He passed away in 1538 after a spiritual life of 151 years. The meaning of the word karni is excellent. The goddess's name in her younger age was Rigu Bai. Once the goddess placed her hand over her Grandma and fixed her finger, Grandma was fascinated by this and named her Karni. Although she married Depaji Charan, she led a spiritual mind, she did not have a family. Depaji Charan later married the goddess's sister Golab, and then she returned to the spiritual life. She treated her sister's four children as her own. At present the temple worshipers are the descendants of these four sons.
At first, Karni mata made a temple inside the cave and worshiped her deity. Maharaja Rao Jit Singh built a mud temple in place of the cave. Then Maharaja Suroj Singh built a pucca temple. At present Maharaja Ganga Singh made the beautiful marble gate and its silver door.
The idol in the mother's temple is made by Banakhati, a blind sculptor from Jaisalmer. After the demise of Karni mata, Banakhati saw the idol in his dream and with his mother's grace he regained his sight and made the idol with Jaisalmer sandstone.Karni Mata laid the foundation stone of Meherangarh Fort and Bikaner Fort in Jodhpur.There are many rats inside the temple. They are called Kaaba or Kawa. There are so many rats in the temple premises but there is no stench. They do not spread any disease. They do not go outside the courtyard. The food they eat is the mother's prashad.You have to step inside the temple very carefully so that no Kaaba dies under your feet. The death of Kaaba is inauspicious. If accidentally this happens then you have to worship the silver rat.It is a good sign if you see white rats.Now let me present you the story of Kaaba? Once Lakshman, the youngest son of Karni mother's sister Golab, drowned and died while he went to drink water from the Kapil lake. Mother prayed to Yamraj to beg for Lakshman's life. Yamraj gave back his life, but in the form of rat instead of human. Since then, There Kaabas are existed inside the temple as the mother's child.The idea of the people here is that Kaaba is born when Charan dies and Charan is born when Kaaba dies.Aarti is held at the temple at 5 am and 7 pm. During this time water, milk and prasad are given to Kaaba. I left Bikaner at 3pm to see the temple in the daylight and the evening arti.
করণী মাতা মন্দির - আজ আমরা দেখবো বিকানির থেকে 32km দূরে দেশনোকে করণী মাতার মন্দির বা রাট টেম্পেল। করণী মাতার অনেক চমৎকারীর মধ‍্যে আমি যেটুকু জেনেছি তা বলার চেষ্টা করছি। মাতা দেবী হিংলাজ বা দূর্গার অবতার, বিকানির রাজ পরিবারের কুলদেবতা। মেহাজী চারন ও দেবল বাইযের কন‍্যা করণী মাতা। 1387 সালে জন্মপ্রহণ করেন। 151 বছরের জীবন কালে অসংখ‍্য মানব হিতৈসী কাজে আধ‍্যাত্মিক জীবন অতিবাহিত করে 1538 সলে দেহত‍্যাগ করেন। করণী কথার অর্থ চমৎকারী। মাতার ছোট বেলাই নাম ছিল রিগুবাই। একবার মাতা ঠাকুমার হাতে হাত বুলিয়ে দিয়ে আঙ্গুল ঠিক করে দিলে ঠাকুমা তার চমৎকারে মুগ্ধ হয়ে নাম দেন করণী। আধ‍্যাত্মিক মন সম্পন্ন মাতার দেপাজী চারাণের সঙ্গে বিয়ে হলেও তিনি সংসার করেননি। বোন গোলাবের সঙ্গে দেপাজী বিয়ে দিয়ে তিনি আধাত্মিক জীবনে ফিরে জান। বোনের চার সন্তানকে তিনি নিজের সন্তান রূপে দেখতেন। বর্তমানে মন্দিরের পূজারীরা এই চার পুত্রের বংশধর। প্রথমে মাতা মন্দিরে নিজে গুহা তৈরী করে তার আরধ‍্য দেবতার পূজা করতেন। গুহার জায়গায় কাঁচা মাটির মন্দির করেন মহারাজা রাও জিৎ সিং।এরপর পাকা মন্দির তৈরী করেন মহারাজা সূরজ সিং। বর্তমানে সুন্দর মার্বেলের গেট ও রুপোর দরজা তৈরী করেন মহারাজা গঙ্গা সিং। মায়ের মন্দিরে যে বিগ্রহটি আছে তা জয়সলমীরের আন্ধ ভাষ্কর বানা খাতিরের তৈরী। মায়ের দেহত‍্যাগের পর স্বপ্নে বানাখাতি মায়ের যে মূর্তি দেখেন, মায়ের কৃপায় দৃষ্টি ফিরে পেয়ে তা জয়সলমীরের বেলে পাথর দিয়ে তৈরী করেন। মন্দিরের ভিতরে আনেক ইঁদুর আছে। এদের কাবা বা কাওয়া বলে। এতো ইঁদুর মন্দির চত্তরে থাকলেও কোন দুর্গন্ধ নেই। এদের জন্য কোনো রোগ ছড়ায় না। এরা মন্দির চত্তরে বাহিরে যায় না। এদের খাওয়া প্রসাদই মায়ের প্রসাদ। মন্দিরের ভিতরে আপনাকে খুব সাবধানে পা ফেলতে হবে যাতে আপনার পায়ের নিচে কোন কাবার মৃত্যু না হয়। কারণ কাবার মৃত্যু অশুভ। এর জন্য আপনাকে রুপোর ইঁদুর পূজ দিতে হবে। সাদা ইঁদুর দেখতে পাওয়া শুভ লক্ষণ। এবার কাবাদের গল্প বলি? একবার করণী মাতার বোন গোলাবের ছোটো ছেলে লক্ষণ কপিল সরবরে জল খেতে গিয়ে ডুবে যায় এবং মৃত্যু হয়। মাতা যমরাজের কাছে লক্ষণের প্রাণ ভিক্ষা চেয়ে প্রাথনা করেন। যমরাজ প্রান ফিরিয়ে দেন কিন্তু মানবদেহের বদলে ইঁদুরের দেহে। সেই থেকে এই কাবারা ।মন্দিরের ভিতরে মায়ের সন্তান রূপে বিরাজ করে। এখানকার লোকেদের বিশ্বাস,চারণের মৃত্যু হলে কাবার জন্ম হয় আর কাবার মৃত্যু হলে চারণের জন্ম হয়। প্রতি বছর চৈত্র ও আশ্মিন মাসে নবরাত্রিতে এখানে মেলা বসে। সকল 5টা ও সন্ধ‍্যা 7টায় মন্দিরে আরতি হয়। এই সময় কাবাদের জল,দুধ ও প্রসাদ দেওয়া হয়। আমি সন্ধ‍্যা আরতি ও দিনের আলোয় মন্দির দেখব বলে 3টের সময় বিকানির থেকে বেড়িয়ে ছিলাম।
