New Gingrich is not especially adept at saying the quiet part out loud and having it work for him. In a remarkable moment of candor - and abject lawlessness and corruption - Gingrich said the Republicans would look to jail members of the House select committee if the Republicans took control of Congress as a result of the midterm elections.

Gingrich claims that the January 6 committee members are "running over the law." But he fails to acknowledge that every federal judge that has addressed the actions of the House select committee has ruled that the committed has a legitimate legislative purpose to do precisely what it is doing.

Gingrich's promise of political retribution should reinforce the need for the January 6 committee to immediately use its lawful power of inherent contempt to compel the testimony of contemptuous witnesses, rather than letting those witnesses run out the clock. Here is why Newt's threats should remove any hesitancy the January 6 committee has had to deploy its lawful power of inherent contempt.
