I approached this week's tutorial a bit differently. The painting itself, of a cactus, is really really simple to do, so I thought it would be a good opportunity to talk to you a little about backgrounds and colors and layering--oh my! Don't be scared! I hope you'll find this helpful and you'll end up with a nice painting at the end!

I do show a reference photo for about 10 seconds in this video, so I am going to provide it, but it is really just to explain the shape of the cactus we're painting. We don't use it beyond that. https://unsplash.com/photos/green-cac...

You can just do this on a piece of watercolor paper. My book is about 8.5x11.5" when using both pages. You can also use a piece of paper for the painting 8.5x6" and then section off another piece for the practice or use 4 small pieces of paper for the practice.
