Bessie Coleman was born in Atlanta, Texas, on January 26, 1892, she was the 10th of 13 children.

Her parents, Susan and George Coleman.

Bessie Coleman enrolled in the Cauldron Brothers’ School of Aviation in Le Crotoy, France.

Bessie Coleman earned her international pilot’s license on June 15, 1921.

She returned to the United States in 1922 as an aerial acrobat. She became known as “Queen Bess” and “Brave Bessie,”

Her specialties were parachuting and stunt flying.

On April 30, 1926, in Jacksonville Florida, Bessie Coleman died in a plane accident caused by a loose wrench that lodged itself into the engine’s controls.

She was only 34 years old.
