This song was originally composed as a musical number. The musical itself was a flop, and nobody knew about it. It was Dizzy Gillespie who first discovered this "phantom song." And Charlie Parker performed as his favorite, and brought it to popularity. Since then, it has been covered by many artists. It has now become a jazz standard.

この曲も、もともとはミュージカル・ナンバーとして作曲されたものです。ミュージカル自体は不発で、誰にも知られていないような存在でした。そんな「幻の曲」だったこの曲を、はじめに見出したのはディジー・ガレスピー。そして人気に火をつけたのはチャーリー・パーカーでした。以降、様々なアーティストによりカヴァーされています。いまではジャズのスタンダードとなっています。

演奏している楽器は、1959年頃のOld’s（オールズ ）の”Ambassador” （アンバサダー というモデルのトランペットです。（シリアルNo. #312***)
リー・モーガンが若い頃に使用した名器として知られています。本来は学生向けのモデルとしての位置付けですが、意外に重量があり、彼の熱いプレイにはぴったりだったのかもしれません。

The instrument I’m playing is an Old’s “Ambassador” model trumpet, manufactured around 1959 (serial no. #312***). It is known as a masterpiece used by Lee Morgan when he was young. It was originally positioned as a college model for students, but it has some heavy waight
, which may have been a perfect fit for his passionate playing.
