History of Kente | All You Need To Know About Asante Bonwire Kente

The Kente cloth originates with the Ashanti people of Ghana. The history of Kente is dated back to 400 years ago. The word Kente comes from the word, kenten, local name for woven baskets. Kente was conceived from a village called Bonwire in the Ashanti region of Ghana. I met Akwasi Kwarteng who is a direct descendant of nana Osei kuffour, the pioneering designer of the Asante Bonwire Kente.
