He Leadeth Me | Joseph H. Gilmore, William B. Bradbury | A Cappella/SATB Hymn

Описание к видео He Leadeth Me | Joseph H. Gilmore, William B. Bradbury | A Cappella/SATB Hymn

Lyricist: Joseph H. Gilmore
Composer: William B. Bradbury

Joseph H. Gilmore (1834–1918) got the idea to write this hymn while giving a sermon on Psalm 23. Afterward, he whote the hymn down, gave it to his wife and thought no more of it. Several months later, she sent it to The Watchman and Reflector, a paper published in Boston, where it was first printed. It attracted the attention of William B. Bradbury (1816–1868), who slightly modified the refrain and set the hymn to music. It was then published in two collections Bradbury edited himself, Golden Censer (1864) and the Devotional Hymn and Tune Book (1864).

~Lyrics~
1. He leadeth me! O blessed thought,
O words with heav’nly comfort fraught!
Whate’re I do, where’re I be,
Still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.

[CHORUS]
He leadeth me, He leadeth me!
By His own hand He leadeth me!
His faithful follow’r I would be,
For by His hand He leadeth me.

2. Sometimes ’mid scenes of deepest gloom,
Sometimes where Eden’s bowers bloom,
By waters still, o’er troubled sea,
Still ’tis His hand that leadeth me.

[CHORUS]

3. Lord, I would clasp Thy hand in mine,
Nor ever murmur nor repine;
Content, whatever lot I see,
Since ’tis my God that leadeth me.

[CHORUS]

4. And when my task on earth is done,
When, by Thy grace, the victry’s won,
E’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
Since God thru Jordan leadeth me.

[CHORUS]
