Eurovision 1998 Results if the Jury and Televote had 50/50 Weighting

Описание к видео Eurovision 1998 Results if the Jury and Televote had 50/50 Weighting

Hi everyone! Welcome back to the second video in this series.

As the experimentation of televoting in 1997 was a huge success, 1998 was the first year where the majority of countries used the public vote to decide the results! Only 4 countries- Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Turkey- used a jury vote, probably due to not having a secure enough telephone system in place.

Just like the last video, this is a look at what the results would be like if both the jury and the public votes had 50/50 weight on the results, but this time, it's the jury points that have a greater impact than before. I multiplied the points from the jury countries by 5.25 so their total equals the total of the televote points (so don't be too alarmed at the decimals), and then I added these totals together to give an overall combined result.

In the video you will be able to see the the difference from a country's actual placing in the contest, and the points it receives under this system, also with a breakdown of how many it received from the jury and televote.

I have also used the 2016-present method of tiebreaks- if more than 1 country scores the same points, the one with the highest televote score wins the tiebreak. In a tie within each separate jury/televote ranking, I used the countback method (whoever has the points from most countries wins, followed by most 12s, 10s, and so on). For ties where all countries got 0 points, the rule is that the country with the earliest running order wins the tie.

Thanks so much for watching- comment down below if you prefer these results or the original results, as there are some quite notable changes this time...
