A very peaceful drycamping site. Surrounded by hills and a few deer in the area. Early May can be very cold, near freezing. Booking is simply Primitive camping and there is no other information about any site in those areas. No site lengths are specified so it could happen that only short sites are available. Even in the Full Hook up section.

Covid still has all the visitor centers, bookstores, and museums closed. But the drive around the area and pull offs to see the cliff dwellings, pit houses, hiking, and Pueblos are open. Very interesting for sure.

Not really recommended for kids under 10? A lot of walking out to see dwellings and historical sites, they will get bored rather quickly. I saw very few bikers, but it is typically windy there I think due to the cliffs.

Check into an Annual State Park Pass if you are going to park in State Campgrounds or visit State Parks for more than a week. In Colorado, the Annual Stater Park Pass for one vehicle is $80. Example: Daily Vehicle Pass for 1 vehicle in Navajo State Park is $9. Daily Vehicle Pass for 1 vehicle in Chatfield State Park is $10 daily. This is IN ADDITION to your camping fee!

I think we both loved Wetherill Mesa the best. :)
