As a whole, King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2 acts as an excellent return-to-roots for Denzel Curry as well as a beyond-welcome tribute to various subgenres and eras of rap from the United States' south. While those looking for Curry to take his sound in entirely new directions may end up being disappointed by the reliance on retread sounds here, the pure energy and love for the artists and genres that he pays homage to here make it feel absolutely undeniable. It certainly helps that there aren't any misses between the features, the production, the pacing, and Curry himself. Even the roughly 35-minute runtime feels relatively perfect in conveying the specific sounds and ideas being presented here. While this may not be the best Denzel Curry album to date (and, frankly, he had a lot to live up to after a career-defining record two years ago), it manages to prove that he is capable of continuing his streak of great successes even when returning to familiar sounds.
