Indonesia's First All-Trans Girlband: Amuba

Описание к видео Indonesia's First All-Trans Girlband: Amuba

In Indonesia, there are few spaces for trans women. Many are left to earn a living either as buskers singing songs on a the streets or as sex workers. But in Yogyakarta, a group of transwomen, or "waria," are trying to carve out a new space in the city's live music scene. Amuba, Indonesia's first all-trans girlband, is pulling waria off the streets and putting them on the stage. Tamara Pertamina, herself a product of the streets, founded Amuba as a vehicle to empower her fellow transwomen in Indonesia. But they need to pull off their one big performance first.

VICE travelled to Jogja to catch Amuba before their biggest show to date and see how they're struggling to build a music career in a country where the LGBTQ is so maligned and faces routine discrimination.
