Sin duda durante el verano podemos disfrutar de muchas bebidas refrescantes, pero pocas como una maravillosa horchata de chufa casera y fartons. Hoy os enseño cómo hacer ambas elaboraciones en casa con unos resultados increíbles.

La chufa es un tubérculo milenario y venerado por nuestros antepasados debido a su gran aportación de nutrientes. La primera referencia que se tiene de la historia de la chufa data el siglo XV aC, cuando se encontraron muestras de este tubérculo en un sarcófago egipcio. Este hecho, nos permite saber que los egipcios consideraban la chufa como un verdadero tesoro y de gran importancia para su bienestar.

En el siglo XIII, en las tierras del mediterráneo, aparece la leyenda popular que le atribuye al Rey Jaume I de Aragón el Conquistador ser el creador  de la palabra “horchata” que proviene del valenciano “orxata”. Dice la historia que en el año 1238 una joven camarera dio a probar al Rey la leche de chufa. Éste, interesado por la bebida, le preguntó a la muchacha que le había ofrecido a lo que ella respondió “es leche de chufa”. Jaume I contestó “¡Això no és llet, això és or, xata!” (Esto no es leche, esto es oro, chata). Esta leyenda no se puede confirmar, además no existían medios para refrigerar alimentos.

The tigernut is a millenary tuber and revered by our ancestors due to its great contribution of nutrients. The first reference to the history of the tigernut dates back to the 15th century BC, when samples of this tuber were found in an Egyptian sarcophagus. This fact allows us to know that the Egyptians considered the tigernut as a real treasure and of great importance for their welfare.

In the 13th century, in the Mediterranean lands, a popular legend appears that attributes King Jaume I of Aragon the Conqueror to be the creator of the word "horchata", which comes from the Valencian "orxata". The story goes that in the year 1238 a young waitress gave the King a taste of tiger nut milk. The King, interested in the drink, asked the girl what she had offered him, to which she replied "it is tigernut milk". Jaume I answered "Això no és llet, això és or, xata!" (This is not milk, this is gold (oro), chata). This legend cannot be confirmed, besides there were no means to refrigerate food.
