The hotel known today as the Marriott Mena House was constructed in 1978 as the more [then] modern "garden wing" of the historic Mena House Hotel located next door to the current property. The original Mena House Hotel building, also known as "the palace," has been closed for more than a decade and is currently undergoing extensive renovations. While the adjacent old Mena House property originally served as a hunting lodge for Egypt's de facto king for a short time in the mid-19th century, it reputation as a former royal palace is greatly exaggerated (similar to the myths surrounding Luxor's Winter Palace Hotel being a former royal palace).

The current Marriott Mena House property features 331 guest rooms spread over four floors with three restaurants, two bars, an outdoor swimming pool, a full-service spa, and a 24-hour fitness center.

The Marriott Mena House was awarded two diamonds on the Middle East Travel & Tourism "Best Hotels of Egypt" list for 2025.
