Описание к видео The Attic Youth Center: Support Groups

Empowerment Group
Kareem Mims:
MGroup's mission is to empower young adults, specifically MSM, on taking caring of their bodies, knowing how to use condoms, knowing the risk of not using condoms, and just getting them open and willing to talk about sex with their partners, with their friends. MGroup is, you know, a pretty safe place where you can talk about sex. Everybody doesn't always want to talk about sex with their parents, with their teachers, and, so, I think you can get with your friends in a safe environment and talk about sex. [MGroup] can be fun, educational, and, yeah, that's it.

Girl Talk
Tara Rubinstein:
Girl Talk is a support group for a wide umbrella [of identities]: lesbian, bisexual, trans* identified girls- to come and talk about their experience in the queer community. We have a ton of fun. In addition to talking about, you know, our lives, who we are, and the things that we do, we also laugh a lot, a lot of fun activities: we watch movies, we go on trips, and we support each other.

Young, Trans*, and Unified
Qui Dorian
So, Young, Trans*, and Unified is a group for genderqueer, trans*, and gender-variant young people to come and hang out with each other, make friends with other gender-variant youth, and just get some support around different aspects of trans* identity. So, we're open to anybody who's on the trans* spectrum. So, that doesn't mean that you have to be medically transitioning, at all, you really could just be questioning your gender. We're a space for everybody to question their gender and figure out what their gender means to them. I think it's a really great space to meet other people who have similar experiences as you, but also different experiences than you, and teaches you new skills about how to deal with figuring out your gender: how to talk about your gender to other people, talk about your gender with your parents, with yourself. It's a great time. We have lots of fun, we always like laugh and don't take ourselves too seriously, which I think is very very important.

Boys' Room
J. Grant
The mission of Boys' Room is for a support group for gay and bisexual males to talk about issues that directly affect them. In Boys' Room we really do talk about all kinds of issues, the issues come directly from the young people in the group, and, so, it's an open discussion. We talk about everything from who we are, who we love, to religion, to sex (of course), and relationships in general, is probably the biggest topic. I think people should come to Boys' Room, not only because it's the oldest running support group here at The Attic Youth Center. [Boys' Room] has been around since 1998. But, I think, that being said, it's still a very exciting place for young men to share about things they want to talk about.

Relationship Group
Monique Walker
The mission of Relationship Group is to provide a space for young people to come and talk about relationships that they're experiencing in their lives. When I talk about relationships, I use the word "relationships" in a very broad sense. It doesn't just mean the person you may be dating: girlfriend, boyfriend, or partner. It also means, relationships that you have with family members, relationships with friends, your relationship with yourself, relationships with colleagues, with people your in school with; we make space to explore all types of relationships and for you to be able to learn about, and ask questions about maintaining healthy relationships with people.
