May 25, 2017, is “Missing Children’s Day” in Canada, as declared by the Solicitor General in 1986. Every year thousands of Canadian children are reported missing. Thankfully, the majority of these children are safely recovered but unfortunately some cases remain open for years with these children never found.

Through our many partnerships, the Winnipeg Police Service - Missing Persons Unit has been able to achieve success dealing with the complexities surrounding missing children cases. These include numerous other law enforcement agencies within Manitoba, across Canada and abroad, the Media community, The Canadian Centre for Child Protection Centre, Street Reach Winnipeg, numerous Child and Family Services agencies and many others. We extend our gratitude to all of our partners for helping us keep children safe. We appreciate the vital role the public has played and continues to play in helping us locate missing children and ensure their safety.

The Winnipeg Police Service encourages families and guardians to always keep a watchful eye on children in their care, know who their friends are and where they live, and engage in discussions with them on personal safety issues. It is further important to have recent photographs readily available of your children in the event they suddenly go missing.
