This morning our cruise ship picked up a special pilot in Fazendinha to help our Captain navigate the Amazon River. And this is a HUGE honor to have this opportunity. We’ve been looking forward to navigating it for months.

Not many cruise ships are allowed to cruise up the Amazon. Those that do are typically very small.

This morning, an article from May 2023 was shared by a couple different passengers about how the ship Queen Victoria made history as the largest passenger ship to cruise up the Amazon River but online stats suggest our ship is larger.

So maybe we’re making history today? 🤷‍♀️

Regardless, we’re enjoying incredible views! We can see the Amazon Rainforest off either side of our ship. And we’ve had wonderful discussions with the kids today about related topics such as why the Amazon river is much more murky than the ocean was, the types of animals that live in the Amazon river, types of animals in the rainforest, why we are worried about bug bites here, why we are conserving water on the ship, etc. so much natural learning happening today! And it’s hard to tear any of us away from the windows when we’re inside because the view is so incredible.

As a child, the Rainforest was this remote thing I read about. The Amazon River was almost a mythological place where stories took place. And memorizing layers of the rainforest? Forget it. But all of those are very real to my kids now!
