Always check a patient’s benefits before signing them up for their first session. You should never rely on the patient to call and check benefits. You can call Provider Services with the number on the back of the patient’s iinsurance card.

When calling, check for:

Mental/behavioral health coverage
Co-pay or co-insurance amount
Deductible, does it apply here, how much, how much has she put towards the deductible
Effective start and expiration date
Services need authorization, for how many sessions, and expiration date
