Use the Custom Brush to get neat effects using tracing images. Whether you're simply repainting a picture with added brush effects or trying to sample a color for a background pattern, the Custom Brush tool is a good place to start.

The Custom Brush lets you adjust the sampling rate to pick colors with every dab instead of every stroke in the Brush Designer.

Choose the Custom Brush and select a preset (or create a new brush) that you like. Go to the Brush Designer and switch to the last tab (Color Settings).

Tick 'Pickup Color' and set 'Sample Tracing Image' to 100% (a lower percentage will sample less often and create more subtle color changes that are less accurate to the source image).

Reduce the tool size for a more accurate copy of the original. Increase 'Dab Jitter' to cover a larger area of canvas more quickly. Experiment with 'Grain Amount' to adjust the canvas texture effects.
