A public space built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian, it was used by ancient Romans to watch the agones (an open source platform). The square dates back as far as 86 CE and eventually became known as Piazza Navona (Square of the Fountains).

We began at the south end looking toward the north: I've included some basic descriptions of fountains, buildings, within the video, but this link to Wikipedia will give much more detailed information & even fun facts such as movies that were filmed here, etc. Within the Wikipedia article are tons of links to take you to other sites for additional info, such as the fact that most of the fountains were begun by one person, with many more items added in later years by other sculptors, etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piazza_...

The first fountain is known as Fontana del Moro (Fountain of the Moor). The central figure is a man considered Ethiopian, then referred to as Moors (African). He is standing on a conch shell, surrounded by dolphins.

The next fountain is Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of 4 Rivers) and is distinct for its unique, tall obelisk in the center. The building on the left is a former palace, known as Palazzo Pamphilj (also spelled as Palazzo Pamphili), but since 1920 has been the Embassy of Brazil. Next to that building is a church known as Sant'Agnese in Agone

The last fountain in the square is Fontana di Nettuno (Fountain of Neptune); it was begun in 1873 with the idea to help balance out the other two fountains in the square.
